Pistol Holsters

To choose a holster, you have to ask yourself what you would like to accomplish. Do you want to conceal your gun? Do you want to be able to draw it out of the holster quickly? Are you mainly interested in comfort? Concealed pistol holsters are very popular now that there is a concealed handgun permit.

The most comfortable holsters are belt holsters, which are worn outside the pants and threaded onto the belt, but they are the least concealable. Most have a thumb break to hold the pistol in and will hold a medium to large semi-automatic. You snap the gun in and wear it on the outside of your pants. It's fairly inexpensive and fairly easy to unsnap and pull out the weapon.

There is another type of holster that is a paddle type that doesn’t have to be taken off the belt; it slides inside the pants and has 2 screws on the inside so you can adjust the tension. This way the gun won't fall out but it can be taken out fairly quickly.

A more concealable option is a shoulder holster. This is good for small revolvers or pistols and has straps that go over the shoulder to keep in the gun.

A vertical shoulder holster is expensive but will conceal a large revolver (like a 44 magnum) very well. Your belt goes through it and a strap goes over your shoulder and has a strap to keep it in place.

There is an inside-the-waistband holster that goes through the belt but inside the waistband that is very concealable.

Another very concealable pistol holster clips inside the waistband instead of threading through the belt. It’s a small holster, very concealable, and not too expensive.

The most concealable holster that is worn on the body is an ankle holster. It is usually lined, has straps to hold it on the ankle, and a thumb break, but ankle holsters are harder to get to.

The most concealable place to keep a pistol or handgun is in a purse or briefcase.
