Competition ShootingCompetition Shooting attempts to measure the ability to shoot rapidly and accurately with a full power handgun, rifle, and/or shotgun. A competition will measure the shooters aptitude in all of these areas. To do this, shooters compete on an obstacle-laden shooting course (called stages). The scoring system measures points scored per second, then weights the score to compensate for the number of shots fired. If they miss a target, or shoot inaccurately, points are deducted, lowering that all-important points-per-second score. The most competitive shooters condition themselves for the sport because they realize that physical strength and dexterity are necessary to have the edge over other competitors. However, most of those in competition shooting are just average people who are there because they enjoy the sport. There are competitive divisions for most handguns, from revolvers, to scope-sighted, to everything you can think of. HISTORY OF COMPETITION SHOOTING Competition Shooting is a sport evolved because people used guns for self defense. Competition shooting is a way to measure people's skill. You have seen on movies where people are walking down the street of a pretend city with pretend villains and it seems to be a lot of fun to actually shoot the villains without injuring the innocent. That's why people enjoy competition shooting! People were becoming enamored with TV westerns in the 50s and this led to a lot of competitions to measure and test, just for fun, how rapidly and accurately people can shoot. This led to some of the competition shooting that we see today. You can see that some of the skills used in competition shooting are similar to the measuring and testing done in these TV westerns. Not only do they test shooter's skills, they're just a lot of fun! 10 Ring has several varieties of bench rests, bags, targets, and other accessories needed for Competition shooting. |
